Oscar Alemán’s music has been a touchstone for me for decades. With Just Like That, I bring his compositions and arrangements together with my own original music, played by a six-piece band inspired by the small-group swing of Alemán’s 1939 recordings with violinist Sven Asmussen.

Featuring Greg Ruby (lead guitar), Evan Price (violin), Jonathan Doyle (tenor saxophone), Josh Roberts (rhythm guitar), Jen Hodge (bass), and D’Vonne Lewis (drums), with Casey MacGill on guest vocals, the album draws on the interplay of hot jazz, swinging rhythm, and melodic invention that make Alemán’s music so enduring.

Recorded live in one room at AVAST! Studios over two days, without headphones or overdubs, Just Like That captures the spontaneity of musicians making music together. The music of Oscar Alemán, reimagined through the sound of the Greg Ruby Six.
